CIVIC ASSISTANTS

The Civic Assistants.

The inter-cultural association UNIVERSO, whose members has always developed and promoted with enthusiasm all the initiaves devoted to improuve relationships among people belonging to different cultures and countries, has made his own target to help foreigners and immigrants in building up their future abroad, Italy and Bologna at first.

The most important initiative welcomed and supported by Bologna Municipality has been the introduction of Civic Assistants. Based on the ideal of respect, peaceful cohabitation and social unity, Universo has proposed to the City of Bologna the work of foreigners citizens helping on a volunteers basis to respect the more elementary rules and laws to guarantee a good standard of life to everybody living in the town. The project started in 2000, it was approuved on July 2001 by the P.G. n. 114830/01 and in 2003 the Bologna Municipality confirmed the figure of the Civic Assistants. The Civic Assistants are requested to check the primary, secondary and nursery schools preventing any kind of children abuse; in the parks and in the the area where desperation is present all time, when there are drunk arrestrs and in places of public demonstrations and during the market days.

At present Intercultural Universo Assocuiation has 40 active volounteers consisting in students and foreigners workers and has obtained the responsability to control 18 elementary and maternal schools, 3 parks, 1 garden.
